Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisor of Painters and Coatings to join our Facilities and Logistics Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the work of painters and other assigned personnel, ensuring that all painting and coating projects are completed to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct the work of painters and other assigned personnel, ensuring that all projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Assign and lay out work for painters, ensuring that all tasks are clearly understood and completed to the highest standards.
  • Inspect and check work progress in all stages of completion, identifying and addressing any issues or concerns.
  • Examine the work of contractors, evaluating adherence to contract specifications and directing changes as necessary.
  • Select and utilize proper equipment and materials for each project, ensuring the safety and well-being of all personnel.
  • Take off quantities from plans and specifications, requisitioning required materials and equipment as needed.
  • Keep accurate records and make reports, providing regular updates to management and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • 6 years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter, acquired within the last 15 years, with at least 1 year spent performing the duties of a supervising painter.
  • Or, not less than 4 years of such experience, plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school, to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience.
Working Conditions

As a Supervisor of Painters and Coatings, you will be working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with frequent exposure to unsanitary conditions, heavy lifting, and standing for extended periods. You will also be required to work at various heights and in low and high temperature conditions.
