Job Summary

The YMCA of the Roses is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health Education Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our wellness department, you will be responsible for leading disease prevention and management programs, developing and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers and members, and promoting program to community partners.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead disease prevention and management programs with a high level of efficacy, understanding program content and the importance of following protocol for evidence-based programs.
  2. Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members, or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  3. Promote program to community partners and seek to establish relationships with community organizations for the purpose of expanding the reach of our programs.
  4. Engage with YMCA members and staff to promote disease management and prevention programs internally for employee wellness.
  5. Convey information on wellness programs and schedules, and as appropriate, refer program participants and families to other programs.
  6. Maintain records as required, including attendance and progress reports.
  7. Maintain HIPAA compliance.
  8. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  9. Attend required staff meetings, educational workshops, and certifications.
  10. Organize and put away needed class equipment, reporting damaged equipment as necessary.
  11. Train and supervise class aides as assigned.

Requirements
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • 1 evidence-based or health awareness program certification/training, such as YMCA Disease Management or Prevention program certification, National certification, or National education program training.
  • At least 1 year of experience with delivering evidence-based programming and performing associated data collection or 1 year of experience working as a YMCA Wellness Instructor or Personal Trainer.
  • Experience working with special populations, such as older adults or individuals with mobility impairment.
  • Complete the following list of trainings/certifications within the first month of hire: Living our Cause, Wellness Center at the Y, Principles of Member Health and Wellness Certification, Listen First Training, Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, and HIPAA Privacy and Security Certification.

  • Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force regularly and 45 pounds of force occasionally.

  • Ability to set up a seminar/discussion space by moving chairs, tables, and carrying supplies such as a laptop, projector, program guides, and participant kits.
