Position Summary:
Sovah Health is in search of a qualified individual to oversee the activities and resources of the Surgical Services Department, ensuring alignment with both departmental and organizational goals. The Director of Surgical Services will provide comprehensive leadership across various Surgical Services Departments, including Pre-Procedure Screening, One Day Surgery, Operating Room, Central Processing, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and execute departmental objectives, strategies, and standards that adhere to the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical guidelines of the organization.
- Manage and assess departmental functions, focusing on patient care delivery, information technology, service level assessments, and complaint resolution to meet performance and quality standards.
- Oversee various personnel actions, including recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, disciplinary measures, and ongoing educational initiatives.
- Prepare, track, and assess departmental budgets, ensuring compliance with allocated financial resources.
- Foster a professional environment that promotes growth and development.
- Incorporate evidence-based practices into operational and clinical procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Graduation from a Nursing Program is required. A Bachelor's degree is mandatory, while a Master's degree is preferred.
Required Skills:
Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to operate with minimal supervision are essential. Candidates must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and responding appropriately.
Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, with the ability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuity of care for patients.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
Licenses:
Current Registered Nurse licensure from the Virginia State Board of Nursing or a Compact State is required.
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a surgical specialty setting is required, along with three (3) years in a full-time supervisory or management role within perioperative services.
