Job Title: Regional Assistant Branch Manager (Librarian III)

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join our team as a Regional Assistant Branch Manager (Librarian III) at Fairfax County Public Library. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for managing and supervising the information department of a regional library, serving on the branch management team, and responding to the needs of library customers and resolving more complex customer issues.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise the branch in the absence of the branch manager.
  • Serve on branch management team.
  • Respond to the needs of library customers and resolve more complex customer issues.
  • Perform all essential information and support duties.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned to further the goals and objectives of Fairfax County Public Library.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited library school.
  • Two years of professional library experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Possession of a certificate issued by the Virginia State Board for Certification of Librarians required within three (3) months of appointment to the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least three years of library experience, to include two or more years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience working at a public service desk and providing exemplary front-line customer service.
  • Experience leading meetings and/or creating/conducting presentations about the library in front of a group.
Working Conditions:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and child protective services check to the satisfaction of the employer.

This position requires the ability to lift up to 15 lbs., input, access, and retrieve information from a computer, perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist and shoulder movements, stand for 2 hours at a time, shelve materials at all height levels, stoop, bend, reach, squat, and kneel. Ability to travel to various locations throughout Fairfax County to provide coverage, attend meetings and trainings.
