Azure Cloud Solutions Engineer

Role Overview

The Azure Cloud Solutions Engineer is essential in overseeing and optimizing our technological infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Azure Cloud services. This position entails configuring, diagnosing, and enhancing Azure Cloud, Windows Servers, Microsoft SQL, and Microsoft 365 services through PowerShell scripting. The Azure Cloud Solutions Engineer works closely with senior management to establish resource requirements, data necessities, desired user experiences, and budget considerations for each department to ascertain its computing demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and maintain both cloud-based and on-premises networking and computing systems, including hardware, software, web portals, internet and intranet connections, firewalls, servers, and security protocols.
  • Oversee and enhance Azure services such as Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Azure Active Directory, Azure SQL Database, App Services, Kubernetes Clusters, and Azure Site Recovery.
  • Administer and troubleshoot server environments (primarily Windows with some Linux) to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability.
  • Manage and support Meraki networking devices, including firewalls, switches, and wireless access points.
  • Implement and oversee security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and security updates.
  • Monitor system performance and resolve issues to guarantee maximum uptime and efficiency.
  • Utilize PowerShell scripting to automate server configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Guide junior team members and promote a collaborative and supportive team atmosphere.
  • Ensure the reliability, availability, and security of IT infrastructure, including systems, networks, and applications.
  • Proactively identify and resolve IT challenges, minimizing downtime and enhancing productivity.
  • Engage in IT infrastructure projects, including planning, organizing, and evaluating IT and technical operations.
  • Stay updated on the latest IT trends and technologies, recommending and implementing solutions to enhance efficiency and support business objectives.
  • Participate in internal and external system audits, ensuring asset protection, information security, and control structures.
  • Document and maintain technical procedures and documentation for applications, including operations and user guides.
  • Exercise judgment to balance academic best practices with practical solutions.
  • Comply with all obligations under HIPAA regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Report any HIPAA violations to the Compliance Officer and/or Human Resources.
  • Complete and demonstrate competency in all required HIPAA Training provided by the company.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Azure services, including Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Networking, Azure Active Directory, and Azure Security Center.
  • Extensive experience with data processing, hardware platforms, and enterprise software applications.
  • Familiarity with security protocols, firewall configurations, and experience with compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST).
  • Understanding of security best practices and experience with compliance frameworks.
  • Experience in disaster recovery planning and backup strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Technical management, information analysis, and expertise in computer hardware/software systems.
  • Expertise in data center management and data governance.
  • Knowledge of computer networks, network administration, and installation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-pressure environment with shifting priorities.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.
  • Willingness to occasionally work outside standard business hours.
  • A results-oriented individual who excels in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and deployment.

Travel Requirements

Travel may vary based on the individual's location, ranging from negligible to 15%.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time, salary/exempt.
  • Some flexibility in hours is permitted, but the employee must be available during core work hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CT, accommodating clients across various time zones.

Required Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience with Azure and Office 365 services, including Exchange Online, Azure Security and Compliance, Power Platform, Identity, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Extensive experience in systems administration, technical support, networking, cloud computing, and web/client-server concepts.
  • Technical expertise in systems networking, databases, web development, and user support.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and administration tasks.
  • Experience configuring and installing various network devices and services.
  • Background in database design in Microsoft SQL.
  • Proven experience as a Systems Analyst, Systems Administrator, or similar technical role.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or similar certifications.
  • Experience in Healthcare IT.
  • Familiarity with Amazon AWS Cloud.
  • Experience with MongoDB and Snowflake.
