The successful candidates for this role will engage in a technical capacity in Dulles, VA.

This Systems Engineering position is accountable for the mission onboarding initiatives for a space program within the Space Missions business sector of the Space Systems Division.

The Space Vehicle Onboarding Systems Engineer will execute mission onboarding tasks for a ground-based, service-oriented architecture designed to support next-generation space capabilities.

The Systems Engineer will integrate with the Phoenix Onboarding Team from both technical and programmatic viewpoints to connect external space vehicles with the ground segment.

The team emphasizes software integration with the ground segment to facilitate operations, including the amalgamation of various heterogeneous space vehicles into a unified ground system.

Duties/Responsibilities:


The Systems Engineer will produce essential mission operations documentation to support orbital analysis, including the identification and integration of signature limitations and constraints.

Developing mission user manuals and offering liaison support to mission operations.

Expose the candidate to a balanced mix of technical expertise, forward-thinking concepts, and execution focus.


Requires a foundational understanding of ground system networking, private cloud implementations, data and messaging frameworks, software deployment, and hardware installation.


Utilizes skills to engage in an organized and solutions-oriented manner with external entities contributing to the integrated ground segment.

The team manages tasks in Jira to collaborate closely with the ground software development team. The work spans both low and high sides and necessitates organizational skills to maintain alignment.

Basic Qualifications:
Must possess U.S. Citizenship with a current or active Top Secret level clearance

Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years of relevant experience

Experience in Space to Ground and Mission Architecture

Space Vehicle Systems Engineering

Preferred Experience (one or more areas desired):
Active or current TS/SCI Security Clearance

Experience with Satellite Ground Systems in the U.S. National Security sector

CONOPS development for Space-Based programs.

Familiarity with various mission analysis methodologies and software tools.

Understanding of Agile software development practices.

Background in software systems engineering.

On-orbit testing of space systems and testing of integrated ground systems.

Salary Range:
$107,300 - $160,900

The above salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director roles may qualify for Long Term Incentives.
