Job Overview:
This non-licensed role is essential for providing comprehensive support within the laboratory environment, adhering to all relevant policies and procedures. The incumbent will:
  • Prepare and organize samples for analysis, including sample racking, aliquoting, and tube preparation.
  • Be responsible for the labeling, handling, processing, and storage of specimens.
  • Identify and assist in resolving sample-related issues.
  • Prepare testing equipment and assist with routine maintenance, alerting technical staff to any equipment malfunctions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist licensed personnel or delegated supervisors in pre-analytical and post-analytical testing activities.
  • Prepare pre-analytical reagents and controls using automated or fixed volume measuring devices, ensuring proper documentation for approval.
  • Maintain accurate records of reagents and media, following established procedures and formulas.
  • Manage inventory of consumables, including ordering, unpacking, logging, and storing reagents and supplies.
  • Sort and accession incoming specimens into the appropriate Laboratory Information System (LIS) and deliver them to designated testing areas.
  • Perform data entry or transcription of previously recorded results for review by licensed personnel.
  • Compile workload data and generate reports as needed.
  • Assist in quality control procedures and prepare necessary documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information and ensure laboratory areas are organized and clean.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations, utilizing personal protective equipment as required.

Qualifications:
Required Experience:
Basic knowledge of operating non-complex laboratory equipment is essential.

Preferred Experience:
Two years of laboratory experience is preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
The role may involve lifting and carrying objects, with frequent lifting of items weighing 1 to 10 pounds, occasional lifting of 11 to 25 pounds, and seldom lifting of 26 to 50 pounds. Objects exceeding 50 pounds require assistance. The position demands the ability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain good eye-hand coordination while sitting or standing for extended periods.

Knowledge and Skills:
A solid understanding of reagent stability and storage, along with an awareness of factors influencing test results, is necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and strong typing skills are desirable. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential for interaction with management, colleagues, and clients.

Education:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with some college coursework preferred.
