About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Medical Support Assistant to join our Critical Care team at UNC Health Care. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, providing high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare professionals.

Job Summary

The Medical Support Assistant will work closely with our nurses and physicians to deliver exceptional patient care. Responsibilities include assisting with routine examinations and procedures, maintaining accurate patient records, and performing a range of administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, be able to work independently, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellent patient care.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies.
  2. Critically review patient care documentation, making note of any significant changes in the patient's condition and reporting to a registered nurse or physician.
  3. Provide a variety of clerical tasks, including but not limited to organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, researching information as requested by nurses and physicians, reviewing orders for logic and clarity, revising orders as requested by the nurse, answering the telephone/patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records.
  4. Perform routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies.
  5. Provide direct personal care to patients, including bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting with ambulation, measuring and recording vital signs, and patient height and weight.
Requirements
  • Listed as Nurse Aide I Registry with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • One year of clerical or customer service experience and six months of related nursing assistant experience.
  • Must be fluent in verbal and written English language.
Benefits

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $17.50 - $24.63 per hour. Benefits include extensive package including PTO hours, which are accrued based on the number of worked hours. This position requires the ability to attend the required weeklong hospital orientation offered every two weeks. Orientation Schedule: Monday and Tuesday - In person from 8am to 4pm; Wednesday - 8am to 10am Virtual and in person from 1pm to 5 pm; and Thursday and Friday - Virtual.
