Job Summary

We're seeking a highly motivated and multi-disciplined Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our design team, you'll be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components for our electric vehicles. Your expertise will help us create innovative and efficient solutions that meet our high standards.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop mechanical components that meet our quality and performance standards.
  • Integrate electrical components into our vehicles, ensuring seamless functionality and reliability.
  • Develop and document component mechanical functional requirements, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineering to ensure designs meet factory yields and field reliability standards.
  • Lead suppliers to effectively execute designs on short timelines, ensuring timely delivery of mechanical components.
Requirements
  • At least 8 years of industry experience in automotive or related fields (consumer electronics, biomedical, aerospace, etc.).
  • B.S. degree (or above) in Mechanical Engineering or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Experience designing components and/or systems that include mechanism design, thermal design, PCB integration, sensor integration, and user interface/user experience (UI/UX) considerations.
  • Proficient in CAD design, ideally in Catia V5/V6/3DX, with advanced surfacing and solid modeling expertise.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with experience leading component drawing creation and GD&T to ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, including sheet metal brake-press and stamping, injection molded plastic, cast metals, CNC machining, and 3D printing.
  • Direct experience with EV vehicle systems, automotive design and manufacturing practices, and low-voltage electrical system integration.
What We Offer

Rivian provides a competitive salary range of $168,000 - $193,000 for California-based applicants, with most of the premiums covered for medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance packages.
