Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Correctional Officer II to join our team at the State of Vermont. As a Correctional Officer II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our correctional facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise correctional staff and inmates in a correctional setting, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Conduct searches and inventories of property, sharps, and other items as required.
  • Evaluate staff and inmate performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Participate in disciplinary hearings and investigations, ensuring fair and impartial treatment of all parties involved.
  • Collaborate with other correctional staff to develop and implement facility procedures and programs.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, and 18 months of experience in a correctional system, or an associate's degree or higher and 1 year of experience in a correctional system, or 1 year of military experience and 1 year of experience in a correctional system.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of stress and potential for physical confrontation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff and inmates from diverse backgrounds.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license, and the ability to pass a background investigation.
