Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive respiratory care to patients in critical care settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer respiratory care procedures and modalities in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Use evidence-based practices, clinical decision making, and skilled communication to create a safe patient environment and provide the best patient experience.
  • Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care venues, and assist physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable.
  • Provide medication treatments and therapies per physician order and/or patient-driven respiratory protocols as prescribed.
  • Clean, maintain, and ensure proper functionality of equipment, and troubleshoot as necessary.
  • Educate and instruct patients in purpose, technique, self-care, goal of therapy, and disease management.
  • Facilitate clinical problem solving and collaborate with other departments to provide education on managing patients.
  • Under physician direction, adapt and comply to policies and procedures for various service areas, perform tasks and/or special duties as required by assignment, and maintain performance standards and organizational behaviors.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills, and provide clear, concise, timely, and accurate patient handoff.
  • Promote a culture of safety by recognizing and applying proper safety measures to prevent patient harm, and report patient safety events and near misses in a timely manner.
  • Teach, educate, and precept new teammates, orientees, and students.
Requirements
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 12 months, or active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential issued by the NBRC if credential received prior to January 1, 2019.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program, with a minimum of an associate degree.
  • No experience required.
Working Conditions

The Respiratory Therapist will work in a fast-paced critical care environment, requiring strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. The team member must be able to lift 50 lb objects from knee to waist, and perform other physical requirements as outlined in the job description.
