Job Title: Veterinary Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Specialist to join our team at the Arkansas Department of Agriculture. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and reporting animal disease and/or death.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Generate, analyze, and interpret test results to facilitate the diagnosis of animal disease caused by infectious agents and/or chemical imbalances.
  • Develop new methods of chemical analysis and author safety and quality assurance policies.
  • Disseminate toxic substance information to veterinarians, federal and state agencies, and the general public via reports, lectures, website, and published materials.
  • Conduct drug testing on animals competing for awards at the annual Arkansas State Fair.
  • Coordinate work involving multiple laboratory sections and attend lectures, management meetings, conferences, and continuing education courses.
Requirements:
  • Doctorate degree in chemistry or veterinary medicine (DVM) and one year of experience in a chemical laboratory, including one year in a leadership capacity.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and specialized procedures governing the work of chemical laboratories.
  • Ability to operate standard and specialized laboratory equipment and communicate orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong leadership background with a history of collaborative work with various livestock and poultry services.
  • Leadership experience in a laboratory setting performing personnel evaluations, procurement, scheduling, and other related duties.
  • Broad knowledge of veterinary clinical pathology, microbiology, immunology, and toxicology.
