Job Summary

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Stores and Inventory Manager. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the District's storerooms, ensuring the efficient management of inventory, and coordinating with other departments to meet the material and supply needs of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the ongoing operations of the District's storerooms, monitoring performance through reports, studies, observation, audits, and personal contact.
  • Develop and enhance systems, policies, procedures, and facilities to maximize service and minimize inventory costs, supervising enhancements and updates to the materials management module in SAP.
  • Coordinate ordering, receiving, warehousing, and distribution of materials and equipment with other divisions and departments, participating in Inventory Review Board meetings and acting as Chair for the Board of Standards.
  • Plan and establish the Division's long and short-term goals, budget forecasts, and performance measures.
  • Assign, supervise, and review work, ensuring staff compliance with District policies and procedures, including Personnel Rules and Administrative Procedures, completing performance reviews, addressing employee complaints and grievances, and recommending employment actions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in business or public administration.
  • Eight years of experience in stores and inventory control or purchasing administration, with emphasis on industrial-type commodities and equipment.
  • Four years of this experience must have been at a supervisory level.

Substitution

  • Additional supervisory experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Graduate study in business and public administration may be substituted for the required non-supervisory experience on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years.

Promotional Requirement

  • One year of service with the District as a Supervising Stores Specialist.
  • Civil service status as a Supervising Stores Specialist.
