About this role: The position involves receiving, sorting, pricing, and preparing donated goods for display in the retail environment. Responsibilities include assessing the suitability and pricing of items based on established criteria, maintaining cleanliness and organization in both the store and sorting room, assisting customers with donations, selections, and purchases, operating a cash register, and addressing customer inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receives, evaluates, and categorizes donated items such as clothing, footwear, household goods, and miscellaneous items according to their condition and category; selects appropriate items for store display and organizes them for further sorting or pricing; disposes of unsuitable items following established guidelines.
  • Facilitates customer transactions by processing sales through a cash register; manages cash handling, provides change, and issues receipts; packages purchased items and balances the cash drawer while ensuring the security of all cash register funds and sales documentation.
  • Maintains the organization and security of the cash register area; ensures adequate supplies such as forms and bags are available; keeps the warehouse area orderly and clean; performs cleaning duties for floors, tables, and workspaces.
  • Labels items with price tags and codes according to standard procedures; organizes clothing on hangers and displays them on racks.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a similar role is preferred; any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be able to meet attendance requirements. Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English is essential. Ability to operate a cash register, perform basic math calculations, and handle cash transactions is required. The role involves continuous walking, standing, stooping, and occasional climbing. Most duties are performed while standing, with brief periods of sitting allowed. Moderate physical effort is necessary, including lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment: The position may be performed in a standard retail setting with minimal physical discomfort from weather changes or environmental factors such as noise, dust, and dirt. It may also involve working in a warehouse environment with similar physical discomforts.
