Position Summary
The Chemical Operator is responsible for ensuring personal safety, product quality, and production efficiency in the manufacturing process. Key responsibilities include operating reactors and managing the filling, loading, and unloading of systems and auxiliary equipment.
Essential Functions
- Operate production machinery and monitor process conditions to achieve desired performance metrics.
- Engage in batch manufacturing, including weighing and charging raw materials.
- Adhere to company policies and safety standards to ensure reliable operations.
- Record and interpret data from various instruments to maintain efficient operations.
- Understand key process variables affecting product quality and troubleshoot as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness in work areas and assist in general cleanup.
- Support Ortec's safety goals and participate in Environmental Health and Safety programs.
- Train and mentor new and existing staff on operational processes.
- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Document data accurately and assist with inventory management.
- Contribute to the development of new chemical engineering processes.
- Comply with all safety standards set by the company and regulatory agencies.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: Forklift operation preferred; no prior experience required.
Skills: Basic computer, PLC, and mathematical knowledge.

Competencies: Ability to manage multiple priorities, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a customer-centric approach.
Work Environment
Work is conducted in an enclosed chemical manufacturing facility with exposure to various odors and noise levels. Employees are required to work on concrete surfaces and may engage in small-scale laboratory tasks.
Work Schedule
This position requires the ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. Candidates must be flexible and able to adapt to alternating workweeks.
