Job Summary

The Division Charge Nurse (DCN) for the Emergency Department will be responsible for the operations of the ED as well as supervision of staff. The DCN will assist in budget maintenance, performance evaluation of staff, and other job duties as assigned. The DCN will work closely with Patient Care Managers.

This position has responsibility for administrative, business, and operational planning and assessment. The position is essential to patient care flow. The Emergency Department consists of 5 different areas where care is provided:

  • Triage: where the patient is seen to determine how to prioritize their care needs
  • Chair-centric and express care: intended for low-acuity patients that can be seen and discharged within 60 minutes
  • Acute care area: a 16-bed area where common emergency complaints receive care
  • Critical care: 8 beds capable of caring for complex injured patients
  • UK Level I Trauma Center: 8 beds capable of caring for the most complex injured patients

The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care, which includes:

  • Assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care
  • Delivering direct patient care
  • Ensuring patient satisfaction
  • Training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant)
  • Adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations

This environment supports collaborative efforts among the nursing staff and the team of physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care

Requirements
  • BSN degree
  • 2 years of related experience
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC certifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • ED experience
