Veterinary Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Hamptonburgh Animal Hospital. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the care and well-being of our patients and clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with appointments, patient preparation, and minor procedures.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples, such as fecal, urine, and ear cytologies.
  • Restrain animals safely and efficiently during examinations and procedures.
  • Document patient information and vital signs, and notify veterinarians or veterinary technicians of any unusual medical or behavioral problems.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, medical staff, and other hospital personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including kennels, treatment areas, exam rooms, and surgery suite.
  • Care for and maintain medical equipment, including laboratory machines, surgical packs, and anesthesia machines.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate with clients in a compassionate and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by veterinarians, management, and veterinary technicians to ensure the smooth operation of the hospital.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling.
  • Strong communication skills, good judgment, and ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependability, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
