Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at Southeastern Virginia Health System. As a Phlebotomist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services. Your primary responsibility will be to collect and process blood samples from patients, both pediatric and adult, for various medical tests. This is a full-time position with a competitive hourly rate based on experience. Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and process blood samples from patients, adhering to strict quality control measures.
  • Perform assigned laboratory tests, including hemoglobin, urine dip, urine HCG, strep A, rapid HIV, glucometer, and hemoglobin A1C.
  • Document all test results in the electronic medical records system, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Process laboratory specimens for external reference labs, maintaining proper documentation and reporting.
  • Reconcile all laboratory reports on a daily basis, identifying and addressing any discrepancies.
  • Participate in quarterly proficiency testing, maintaining accurate records and reporting results.
  • Communicate abnormal test results to healthcare providers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Perform quality control checks on all in-house tests, maintaining accurate parallel testing logs.
  • Monitor storage and inventory of supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Maintain a clean and healthy work environment, adhering to laboratory safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in phlebotomy, nursing, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients.
  • Familiarity with medical software and equipment, with a strong understanding of laboratory procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collect samples from all ages, including pediatric and adult patients.
