Emergency Department Technician

The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) plays a vital role in providing direct care to patients across the age spectrum at the direction of RNs and medical providers.
Key Responsibilities- Assist staff in specific procedures in the Emergency Department, including patient transport, ambulation, and positioning using safe patient handling techniques.
- Obtain vital signs and report abnormal vital signs to RNs, informing them of patient/family observations and/or concerns.
- Perform tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients' ages and developmental abilities, including obtaining ordered specimens from patients and transporting them to the laboratory.
- Assist nurses with patient care activities, communicate to RNs patients needing immediate emergency care and intervention, and perform daily living activities such as toileting, bathing, and bed changes.
- Document patient care activities, procedures, and cares provided in the patient Electronic Medical Record, ensuring clear, concise, accurate, and timely documentation.
- Maintain room/unit and supplies, restocking rooms, supplies, and room carts, and assisting with patient room clean-up between patients.
- Perform quality control checks, inspecting equipment throughout the department within required timelines and reporting discrepancies and/or malfunctions to RNs or House Supervisors.
- Current WI Nurse Aide Registry or level of EMT certification to include EMT-B or EMT-I (on either National Registry or State of Wisconsin) required.
- BLS certification required upon hire.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of experience in ERT, EMT, EDT, or CNA position in a hospital or Emergency Services preferred.
- Previous customer service experience, including in-person and telephone interactions, preferred.
