Job Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) role at Webb City Middle School is designed to support students with speech and language disorders. As an SLPA, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist to conduct various tasks and treatment interventions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct speech and language therapy to students, following documented treatment plans or protocols.
  • Learn and utilize current speech-language methods and procedures in an instructional setting.
  • Document and maintain student performance records.
  • Assist the licensed SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings.
  • Provide instruction in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
  • Prepare therapy materials and equipment.
  • Perform checks and maintenance of equipment for therapeutic purposes.
  • Work independently and adapt instructional materials and equipment as determined by student needs and abilities.
  • Assist instructional personnel in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Support the SLP in research projects and in-service trainings.
  • Exhibit compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • May work in various locations, including school or district offices.
  • Participate in district in-service training as required.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions, including intervention plans.
  • Exercise independent judgment and problem-solving skills related to specific areas of responsibility.
  • Work successfully with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to be flexible and receptive to change.
  • Display the ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
  • Conference with parents and school staff on a regular basis.
  • Models positive behavior for students, providing educational and life skills training.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and professional manner for the work setting.
  • Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Adhere to good safety practices.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
Requirements
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree within the field of Communicative Disorders.
  • Valid professional license as an SLPA in the state of Missouri or the ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Minimum of 100 hours of supervised field work experience or its clinical experience equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of speech and language development.
  • Knowledge of learning problems of students with special education needs.
  • Knowledge of student behavior management techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk/hear.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally push, pull, or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to see, including close, distance, and depth perception.
