Senior Accountant Job Description

Heartland Credit Union (Kansas) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to play a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting and accounting systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accounting functions are performed in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and subsidiary statements.
  • Collaborate with various departments to maintain accurate and timely general ledger reconciliations.
  • Perform variance analysis of monthly financial data and identify areas for process improvement.
  • Lead the month-end close process, including intercompany eliminations and consolidations.
  • Prepare and review regulatory and governmental reports to ensure accurate representation of the credit union's financial position.
  • Research and interpret new accounting regulations and provide recommendations for updates to accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support budget preparation and financial analysis, monitoring costs and expenses.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on area activities and significant problems.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and establish strong working relationships across departments.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and related programs.
