Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Polysomnography Technologist II to join our team at West Virginia University Hospital, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting diagnostic sleep studies, ensuring high-quality and efficient studies, and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct sleep studies in accordance with policy and procedure guidelines in the Sleep Evaluation Center, at the bedside, and in critical care areas of the hospital.
  • Ensure proper documentation in the Tech Notes, acquisition equipment, and patient chart.
  • Prepare initial data for use by the physician in the formulation of sleep reports according to established department guidelines.
  • Use AIDET Communications Process and inform patients and families regarding the nature and significance of the study performed.
  • Accurately observe, record, and report all patient concerns, symptoms, and reactions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the equipment, procedure rooms, and work areas of the Sleep Evaluation Center.
  • Maintain CEU requirements and participate in department education and in-services.
  • Assist in the instruction and hands-on technical training of trainees, house-staff, and medical staff both inside and outside of the institution.
  • Participate in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas, and problem-solving with co-workers.
  • Score sleep studies according to American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines.
Requirements
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) with 18 months Sleep Lab experience; OR Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) with 2-5 years sleep lab experience; OR Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 1-2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience; OR Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with 1-2 years Respiratory Therapy experience.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must obtain registry within 18 months of hire as a Polysomnography Tech to retain employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in an Allied Health Field, or Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program.
  • WV Respiratory License.
  • RT's with 1-2 years sleep lab experience.
  • Hospital patient care work experience.
  • ACLS Certification within 90 days of hire.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • The flexibility to work during unscheduled hours.
Working Environment
  • Performs sleep studies in accordance with policy and procedure guidelines in the Sleep Evaluation Center, at the bedside, and in critical care areas of the hospital.
Skills and Abilities
  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with physicians, staff, and patients.
