Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Certified School Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of students in our school setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and treat health conditions among students, providing instruction on general wellbeing and disease prevention.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting plans, including assessment planning and health history reviews.
  • Promote healthy practices and nursing services to students, ensuring their success in general education classes.
  • Coordinate services with other special services personnel within the school to support students.
  • Communicate effectively with school administrators, teachers, and other staff members about students with specific health problems, adhering to HIPAA and federal laws.
  • Follow school district policies for health, emergency care, accidents, drug abuse, and bullying.
  • Notify school administrators, local health department, parents, and staff about confirmed communicable diseases within the school.
  • Write student IEP goals related to their health condition impacting their learning.
  • Complete and file school and state reports regarding screenings, immunizations, physicals, etc.
  • Chart pertinent information on student health files.
  • Monitor compliance of school health program with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Prepare health reports for supervisors, board of education, and the health department.
  • Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services.
  • Maintain security of school health supplies and medications.
  • Instruct students in health education according to state curriculum.
  • Serve as a resource person on health issues.
  • Provide staff development on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers.
  • Screen and conduct health appraisals for students and staff.
  • Provide follow-up evaluations on students as required.
  • Recommend corrective action where problems are identified.
  • Correspond with parents on health needs of children.
  • Identify abnormal growth and development, symptoms of disease, and discuss with parents.
Requirements
  • Current nursing license for the state in which the nurse practices.
  • Certification or Credential in school nursing, required.
  • One year prior school nursing experience required.
  • Pediatric experience, preferred.
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amegis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable.
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
