OVERVIEW

The Manager of Process Refinement is responsible for overseeing the effective and cost-efficient processing of raw sugar into various finished products, including white sugar, soft confectioners, and liquid sugars, adhering to stringent quality standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the complete refining process from the reception of dry raw sugar through to melting, clarification, decolorization, filtration, crystallization, and drying, ensuring the production of high-quality finished products.
  • Directly manages all process operations and supervises onsite process supervisors and hourly staff.
  • Ensures compliance with established quality standards throughout the refining stages, making necessary adjustments to optimize costs.
  • Prioritizes tasks during shifts to achieve operational objectives efficiently.
  • Monitors and controls the consumption of energy, water, and other resources to minimize refining costs while ensuring quality.
  • Responsible for the integrity of control systems to prevent product loss.
  • Develops and mentors supervisory and operational staff to maximize workforce efficiency on each shift.
  • Addresses employee relations issues within the framework of established guidelines and contractual agreements.
  • Coordinates operations during swing and night shifts, collaborating with the Shift Superintendent.
  • Evaluates process operations and suggests enhancements for improved efficiency.
  • Ensures safety training and compliance for assigned personnel, maintaining high standards of housekeeping and equipment maintenance.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to personal and team safety.
  • Capable of performing duties while adhering to required safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards.
  • Collaborates effectively within a unionized work environment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 5 years in industrial maintenance or related service roles.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Proven experience in coaching and training within a team-oriented setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and make informed decisions.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Experience in industrial food processing is preferred.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A 4-year degree or 5 years of supervisory experience in a similar refinery operation is required.
