Essential Qualifications
The Surgical Technologist at Memorial Health is responsible for performing 'scrub' duties during scheduled surgical procedures in the operating room. This role includes assisting with the preparation and utilization of surgical instruments tailored to the specific procedure and patient demographics. A strong understanding of sterile techniques and sterilization protocols is essential for this position. Opportunities for clinical advancement are available.
Educational Requirements
- Completion of a formal Surgical Technologist program or relevant surgical experience is mandatory.
- Preferred completion of Anatomy and Physiology coursework.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Participation in mandatory inservices as specified by regulatory bodies and management.
- Current CPR certification is required.
- Surgical Technologist Certification is preferred.
- Experience in various surgical specialties is preferred.
- Execute duties as a 'scrub' technologist in accordance with hospital policies.
- Prepare the operating room for routine procedures within 5-15 minutes.
- Set up for complex cases requiring specialized supplies within 30 minutes.
- Assist the circulator in verifying equipment and gathering necessary supplies.
- Ensure cleanliness and functionality of surgical instruments.
- Maintain an organized and sterile environment in the operating room.
- Accurately track surgical instruments and supplies throughout the procedure.
- Participate in post-operative cleanup and organization of instruments.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Adhere to aseptic practices and report any breaches in sterile technique.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of medications and instruments.
- Support the efficient operation of the surgical team.
- Demonstrate adaptability and teamwork in the operating room.
- Participate in training and orientation of new staff members.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
