Job Summary

Michigan Paving and Materials, a leading vertically integrated CRH company, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Construction Operations Intern to join our team in Grand Rapids, MI. As a Construction Operations Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in the construction industry and prepare for a career in road construction through field and office experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in project management, including sourcing, bidding, and the build process for construction projects.
  • Work with estimators to develop project estimates and assist with contract setup and subcontract management.
  • Gain experience in asphalt plant operations, including working with plant operators, yard crew, loader operators, and scale operations.
  • Participate in construction crew activities, including working on construction and prep crews, and learning about construction equipment and its uses.
  • Assist with business management tasks, including working with operations managers and finance teams on monthly reporting, job cost analysis, and scheduling.
  • Gain experience in aggregate manufacturing, including understanding basic operations and logistics, and learning about various materials available in quarries and pits.
Requirements
  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or business management.
  • Interest in heavy construction, such as site-work, roads, or environmental projects.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds frequently.
  • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and noise.
  • Ability to work at heights, climb ladders, scaffolds, and stair towers, and walk on uneven surfaces.
