Custodian I

This position is responsible for performing manual work involving the cleaning and care of buildings and facilities at Texas Woman's University. The Custodian I - Facilities Maintenance role requires continuous physical activity and involves the cleaning, sanitizing, and related custodial maintenance of various areas, including apartments, lounges, offices, bathrooms, classrooms, and other spaces.
Key Responsibilities- Clean and maintain floors, hallways, and stairways, including sweeping, mopping, and stripping and waxing.
- Clean and dust furniture, windows, fixtures, and other features.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, replenish supplies, and ensure a clean and hygienic environment.
- Measure and mix cleaning solutions, and operate equipment such as vacuum cleaners and buffers.
- Empty trash containers, clean trash rooms, and deposit trash for pick-up.
- Assist with unloading and distribution of supplies and materials, and monitor and requisition supplies and materials as needed.
- Report needed repairs and property damage, and perform other duties as requested.
- Completion of the tenth grade is preferred.
- Some related experience is preferred.
- Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.
- All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university.
- Ability to understand and follow simple instructions.
- Ability to read simple product instructions.
- Ability to learn materials, methods, and equipment used in assigned work.
- Ability to operate equipment such as a hi-speed buffer, vacuum cleaner, shampoo machine, and water vacuum.
- Ability to use a mop, broom, dustpan, mop bucket, and wringer.
- Ability to regularly climb stairs and to occasionally climb a six-foot ladder.
- Ability to make simple calculations and measurements when mixing solutions.
- Ability to effectively deal with students, staff, faculty, and visitors while performing duties.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
