Associate Resident Engineer

Position Overview
This role involves supporting the Resident Engineer in managing the office's overall operations and overseeing assigned construction contracts to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The following duties are illustrative of the types of work performed and are not exhaustive. Additional related tasks may be assigned as necessary. The Department reserves the right to modify job descriptions based on operational needs.
- Act on behalf of the Resident Engineer during their absence.
- Evaluate construction plans and oversee projects to identify potential issues and recommend necessary adjustments.
- Utilize judgment and initiative to supervise and coordinate field personnel activities, ensuring adherence to Department specifications and procedures.
- Assist in training and guiding both office and field staff.
- Review field records to ensure accurate current and final payments to contractors.
- Maintain professional relationships with contractors and the public to promote cooperation and project coordination.
- Regularly operate a Department vehicle to various locations.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess a valid Arkansas license to practice professional engineering. A comprehensive understanding of highway engineering, construction methodologies, material testing techniques, and surveying is essential. Strong leadership and communication skills are required.
Additional Skills
Candidates should be able to interpret and apply Department policies and procedures as outlined in various manuals related to engineering and construction. Certification in Portland Cement Concrete and Soils Testing, or equivalent, is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with project documentation and reporting software is necessary.
A valid driver's license is mandatory. The Department will consider applicants with Professional Engineering licenses from other states, provided they obtain a reciprocal Arkansas license within the specified timeframe.
