Join Our Team as a Cardiovascular Surgical Technician
UPMC Hamot's Cardiovascular Operating Room is seeking a dedicated Surgical Technician to enhance our team.
The Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) team is responsible for a range of surgical procedures, including Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular cases. This role involves collaboration with the main Operating Room team to ensure optimal staffing levels.
Work Schedule: This position operates Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with shared on-call responsibilities during off-hours and weekends.
Our facility features a 17-suite operating room that accommodates a diverse array of specialties, including Robotics, Kidney Transplants, Trauma, and more.
We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional care to both elective and urgent patients, spanning from infants to geriatrics.
Incentives: We are currently offering SIGN-ON BONUSES for all full-time and part-time Surgical Technician roles, with the bonus amount determined by your years of experience in Surgical Technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the surgical team by performing various tasks in the operating room.
- Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions.
- Ensure the proper placement and functioning of equipment, and restock supplies as needed.
- During surgical procedures, manage special trays, graft materials, and document patient data.
- Label and hand medications to the surgeon in accordance with established protocols.
- Efficiently pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and assistants during operations.
- Support the surgical team by holding retractors, cutting sutures, and assisting with site preparation.
- Participate in the care and disposal of specimens for laboratory analysis and assist in dressing applications.
- After surgery, help transfer patients to recovery and ensure the operating room is cleaned and restocked.
- Prepare patients for surgery by ensuring aseptic conditions and proper positioning on the operating table.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed a program accredited by a nationally recognized institution or maintain certification from an accredited program. Compliance with continuing education requirements is essential.
Surgical Specialties: The role encompasses various surgical specialties, including but not limited to general, orthopedic, vascular, plastic and reconstructive, obstetrics and gynecology, thoracic, ophthalmic, neurosurgery, organ procurement, and endoscopic surgical settings.
Note: Staff employed prior to the effective date of the law or those with relevant experience may not be required to hold certification. New graduates can work for a limited time before certification is mandatory.
Certification Requirements: Candidates should obtain Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Technologist in Surgery Certified (TSC) certification within six months of program completion. UPMC may employ individuals who do not meet certification requirements if diligent efforts to recruit qualified candidates have been documented.
