Organization Overview:
This position is part of the Community Services Board (CSB), dedicated to enhancing public behavioral health services in Virginia.

Role Summary:


The Substance Use Treatment Clinician, holding LMHP or LMHP-E credentials, will evaluate the requirements of adolescents and young adults facing substance use and/or co-occurring mental health disorders. The clinician will utilize gathered information to devise and execute suitable treatment strategies and support services, offering assistance through individual, family, and group therapy sessions.


Essential Qualifications:

A Master's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant human services discipline and licensure in Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.

A minimum of one year of relevant experience in a program-specific setting.

Required Skills and Competencies:

At least one year of experience delivering services (e.g., assessments, supportive counseling, resource linkage) to adolescents and transitional-aged youth.
Understanding of the cultural and linguistic needs of adolescents and transitional-aged youth, demonstrated through annual cultural competency training.
Ability to foster and maintain therapeutic relationships.
Capacity to encourage positive, collaborative, and professional interactions among colleagues and community representatives.
Proficiency in documenting data and completing reports within established timelines.
Adaptability to changes in the work environment in a constructive and professional manner.
Commitment to contributing to a collaborative team atmosphere.

Knowledge of evidence-based practices, including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), emergency interventions, family, group, and individual therapies, psychosocial education, risk assessments, and substance abuse interventions.

Familiarity with community mental health and public health principles to advocate for and enhance an individual's treatment and access to resources.

Understanding of mental health, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse trends, techniques, and literature.
Knowledge of psychiatric and medical treatments.
Ability to assess situations accurately and formulate appropriate responses.

Effective communication skills to facilitate treatment and relay information within an interdisciplinary team.

Competence in conducting clinical interviews to gather information and develop suitable treatment plans.
Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
Valid driver's license required, with the ability to travel to various worksites and transport clients as needed. Attendance at training sessions and meetings may require travel to multiple locations.

Ability to engage in and successfully complete behavioral intervention training, encompassing both verbal de-escalation and physical techniques as required.
