Parkways Maintenance Section Assistant Job Description

Join the City of New Orleans, LA team as a Parkways Maintenance Section Assistant. This role is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of parkways, including tree maintenance, turf area maintenance, and plant propagation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in horticulture, forestry, or a related field, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the maintenance of parkways, including tree pruning, turf mowing, and plant care.
  • Operate a variety of equipment, including lawn mowers, chain saws, and pruning shears.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and lubricating equipment, and reporting any issues to supervisors.
  • Assist in the propagation and maintenance of a large variety of plant life, including trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • One year of experience in parkway maintenance or a related field.
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
