Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development and analysis of advanced maritime systems, including uncrewed vehicles and undersea sensors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems using CAD tools and other design tools as needed.
  • Lead mechanical engineering projects, including design, integration, testing, and evaluation.
  • Conduct analysis and testing of mechanical systems, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and finite element analysis.
  • Develop test plans, conduct tests, and document test results.
  • Prepare technical documentation for projects, including design reviews, technical reports, and briefing materials.
  • Collaborate with government, industry, and academia to push the limits of maritime technology.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and analyzing mechanical systems, including experience with naval architecture principles and CAD tools.
  • Proven experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling, stress, and thermal analysis using finite element software.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing process and ability to effectively work and communicate with other engineers, scientists, and technicians.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with the design and integration of uncrewed vehicles and undersea sensors.
  • Experience with NAVSEA Temporary Alteration Design Package development.
  • Experience leading project teams and an active Top Secret level clearance.
