Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Raytheon. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for developing technical solutions for complex moving element challenges, including aerodynamic steering, thrust vectoring, and attitude-and-divert maneuvering of missile systems and subsystems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop technical solutions for a wide range of moving element challenges, including aerodynamic steering, thrust vectoring, and attitude-and-divert maneuvering of missile systems and subsystems.
  • Apply sound mechanical engineering principles to solve complex system problems while teaming with a cross-discipline team including electrical engineering, systems engineering, flight science, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, and others.
  • Responsibility extends across the entire life cycle of the product, from conceptualizing and design, to prototyping and manufacturing, integration and verification testing, through production support.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior mechanical engineering experience, or an Advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Experience with development of different actuation drive systems, including power management, motor and/or gear train sizing and implementation, and associated bearing configurations for optimization of friction and position accuracy.
  • Experience with electromechanical control actuation systems, including sizing, testing, and integration, design-for-manufacturing, kinematic and dynamic simulation and analysis.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Eight (8) years of experience with Systems or Mechanical Engineering of servo controls.
  • Experience with development of CAS requirements, CAS architecture, requirements risk, requirements verification and validation, system performance & function, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Experience in working with control actuation systems that employ permanent magnet brush and brushless DC motor technology.
  • Experience with feedback control systems, including sizing, testing, and integration, design-for-manufacturing, kinematic and dynamic simulation and analysis.
