Role Responsibilities

As a WOW Counselor, your primary responsibility will be to facilitate group counseling sessions and provide direct support to female students in grades 6-12. You will empower these young women to develop critical skills, including responsible decision-making, self-awareness, emotional regulation, self-acceptance, healthy relationship building, and social responsibility.

Key Duties Include:

  • Conducting multiple weekly group counseling sessions utilizing the WOW curriculum during school hours
  • Performing clinical assessments for each participant
  • Providing individual counseling to WOW participants
  • Offering family support and crisis intervention as needed
  • Completing necessary documentation and administrative tasks on a weekly basis
  • Participating in staff development and curriculum training for WOW
  • Assisting in the enhancement of the WOW program through training for educators and school presentations
  • Collaborating with various support teams and committees
  • Representing Youth Guidance in relevant boards and committees
  • Engaging in public relations activities as required
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Educational Background/Experience

  • A Master's Degree in social work, counseling, or a related discipline from an accredited institution
  • At least two years of experience in group facilitation
  • Experience in clinical practice and youth engagement
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care practices
  • Prior experience in educational or youth-focused environments

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Cultural sensitivity and competence
  • Creative engagement techniques for youth
  • Team-oriented approach to client care
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English is highly desirable

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, communicate effectively, and handle various tasks
  • Close visual acuity for tasks such as data analysis and computer work
  • Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 25 pounds may be necessary

Work Environment

  • Work primarily occurs in an educational setting
  • Some travel may be required
  • COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.
