The Mental Health Therapist Intern is responsible for providing diagnostic assessments, creating and maintaining treatment plans, and providing ongoing consultation in coordination with the treatment team. This role is in accordance with MN State Statute, including Rule 245G, and under the direction of the Outpatient Clinic Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete diagnostic assessments and narrative summaries according to Minnesota Statutes 245G.
  • Complete written consultation requests for mental health or psychiatric services as needed.
  • Contact referents for progress updates and consultation regarding continuing care planning.
  • Assess clients for potential vulnerabilities and develop Individual Abuse Prevention Plans as needed.
  • Develop comprehensive individualized treatment plans with specific and measurable goals, objectives, and interventions.
  • Document client participation and progress in client records according to the Center's policies and procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with the Sr. Manager of Outpatient Treatment Services and Alcohol and Drug Counselor on treatment and progress.
  • Facilitate group counseling and education sessions.
  • Work with clients to develop and implement a viable continuing care plan, including assistance with referrals and coordination with significant others.
  • Assist in the orientation of new employees and interns.
  • Complete necessary professional development in Mental Health, Substance Use Disorders, and Co-Occurring Disorders.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in an accredited program with an approved faculty supervisor.
  • Working toward licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Knowledge and understanding of chapter 245G, chapter 245A, and sections , and knowledge and experience working with veterans or armed services populations and their families, post-partum.
