Job Overview

Summary:

The Emergency Care Technician is responsible for a range of essential tasks that support the emergency department team. A key aspect of this position is maintaining a safe, organized, and well-stocked environment for patient care.

Key Responsibilities:


• Upholds the OneCHRISTUS Competencies, demonstrating leadership qualities in various capacities.

• Facilitates the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.

• Observes and reports on patient conditions, recognizing any changes and communicating findings to nursing staff.

• Safely escorts stable patients to other departments as necessary.

• Responsible for cleaning, obtaining, and returning medical equipment and supplies.

• Assists in managing inventory and stock levels of necessary items.

• Maintains proficiency in performing specialized procedures, including venipuncture, splinting, and dressing changes.

• Prepares for emergency procedures and supports registered nurses as needed.

• Operates patient monitoring devices, records vital signs, and performs diagnostic tests under RN supervision.

• Conducts phlebotomy and collects lab specimens as directed.

• Adapts patient care methods to meet the diverse needs of individuals served by the department.

• Performs clerical duties under the direction of nursing staff, including managing patient records and transcribing orders.

• As a Patient Registrar, warmly welcomes patients, ensuring a professional and courteous environment while gathering necessary information for registration.

• Adheres to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all interactions.

• Completes additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care setting or military medic background, or an active EMT license in lieu of experience.
  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • ACLS certification to be obtained within six months of employment.
  • PALS certification to be obtained within six months of employment.
  • EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license preferred or required in lieu of experience.
