Job Title: DMV Title Clerk

Sonic Automotive is a leading automotive dealer group with over 100 dealerships nationwide. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented DMV Title Clerk to join our team at Stevens Creek BMW.

Job Summary:

The DMV Title Clerk will be responsible for processing all car deals, including verifying costs for the accounting department, handling legal transfers of documents for the Department of Motor Vehicles, and preparing tax and title documents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process new and used vehicles for registration in the state where they will be titled.
  • Prepare tax and title documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Submit legal transfer work to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Verify funds have been collected and the correct lien holder paid off before processing title applications.
  • Check for accuracy in applications and ensure all information is complete.
  • Prepare payoff checks for new vehicles and trade-ins.
  • Bill out dealer trades and prepare Certificates of Origin.
  • Maintain a system to verify out-of-state titles.
  • Compile and maintain a complete list of outstanding title work.
  • Report to management on the status of any missing or problem titles and provide a current list of outstanding titles to the comptroller at the end of the month.
  • Sign over titles for all wholesalers who have paid in full.
  • Prepare a monthly report to management of any funds not collected from wholesalers due to missing or incomplete title work.
  • Process/ register all vehicle warranties and extended service contracts, maintaining a log of all contracts processed and mailed.
  • Process yearly renewal of dealer tags in conjunction with the comptroller.
  • Conduct periodic training sessions for managers and sales personnel regarding title regulations and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Previous dealership title experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work in the USA.
  • All applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to pass pre-employment testing, including background checks, MVR, drug test, credit report, and valid driver's license.
