The City of San Angelo Texas is seeking a skilled Park Gardener to join our team. As a Park Gardener, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and attractiveness of our public gardens.
Key Responsibilities- Perform manual labor tasks to maintain clean, safe, and attractive public gardens, including greenhouse, gardens, lawns, flower beds, and other cultivated areas.
- Assist with garden and greenhouse planting, soil preparations, and implementation of projects.
- Perform a variety of garden and grounds maintenance activities, including fertilizing, weed control, pest control, mowing, trimming, and watering procedures.
- Clean up trash and debris, prune and trim bushes and flora, plant and extract flowers and plant life, and load and haul materials.
- Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed, report problems and emergency situations, recognize, avoid, and report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
- Assure that hazardous materials are cleaned up in a timely manner and controlled according to City policy and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (30-minute lunch). May work weekends, holidays, and some overtime as needed.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.
- Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent, and prefer two years of general work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Required Licenses or Certifications: Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record.
- Required Knowledge of: City policies and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Required Skill in: Operating and maintaining power and hand tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner, closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Work is performed outdoors; ability to perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time; work in extreme weather conditions as needed, and lift and carry up to 94 pounds.
