Chief Payroll Officer

Job Overview

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage the preparation, distribution, and reporting processes for payroll.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
• Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
• Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
• Participate in decision-making processes regarding changes to payroll.
• Administer benefits, commissions, and other payroll additions and deductions.
• Manage and resolve issues relating to payroll production.
• Interact with auditors, management, and other stakeholders.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop the payroll team.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a payroll management role, preferably within the construction industry.
• Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Experience with multi-state payroll and bi-weekly payroll.
• Proven ability to supervise and lead a team.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient with payroll software as well as Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
