Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Design Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our scenic department, you will be responsible for the technical design and drafting of scenery, as well as coordination with the shop supervisor, purchaser, scenic charge, and other relevant stakeholders regarding necessary scheduling, staffing, material acquisition, product research, prototyping, and similar tasks to complete construction on time, safely, and to standards of quality expected by A.R.T.

Responsibilities
  1. Design and draft scenery, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
  2. Collaborate with the shop supervisor, purchaser, scenic charge, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and safe completion of construction projects
  3. Coordinate with production departments to meet load-in and strike requirements, scenic operation and maintenance requirements, safe automation operations and protocols, and similar
  4. Develop and execute mechanical and motion control systems as required, collaborating with contracted experts on areas such as code compliance, engineering, and automation
  5. Participate in load-in activities, attend tech rehearsals as needed, supervise load-in and strike operations, and oversee the archiving of shows
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in theater technology, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office software
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and work in confined quarters when working on automation and FX systems
