Job Overview

The selected candidate will demonstrate a solid history of effectively overseeing public infrastructure and bridge maintenance construction initiatives. An ideal applicant will have experience as a project supervisor on contracts exceeding $500,000.00.

Project Supervisors are responsible for providing comprehensive management direction to various projects, establishing project goals and policies, maintaining communication with primary client contracts, and overseeing construction and financial operations through administrative guidance of on-site construction managers.

A proficient Project Supervisor will also act as a technical resource for project plans, specifications, inquiries, and shop drawings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine and oversee all design and construction phase documents to ensure alignment with budget, schedule, and primary contract.
  • Foster relationships with clients.
  • Prepare instructions and coordinate the bidding process; assess subcontractor bids for compliance, qualifications, and financial aspects.
  • Collaborate with the Project Superintendent and others to contribute to the pre-bid and master construction schedule. Ensure the creation of a detailed construction phase schedule.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Build and maintain effective professional relationships with team members, project managers, clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • The ideal candidate will be proactive and thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • Execute assigned responsibilities with a high degree of accuracy, timeliness, and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure all project estimates are developed in accordance with project requirements, gaining familiarity with each estimate to uphold its integrity.
  • Negotiate and prepare subcontracts, purchase orders, and change order requests for review by the Senior Project Manager.
  • Create and manage team schedules.
  • Evaluate the financial responsibility and previous performance of subcontractors before awarding any subcontract. Conduct a subcontractor pre-award checklist.
  • Review the subcontract pre-billing worksheet and monthly progress payment requests; monitor payment receipts and disbursements.
  • Track all outstanding owner change orders and change order requests.
  • Manage job costs, information, and analysis.
  • Comply with all traffic laws and worksite regulations.
  • Prepare monthly project forecasts, cost reports, and construction billing forecasts.
  • Ensure all project activities and closeout efforts are executed following proper planning to meet standards and specifications.
  • Supervise, mentor, and conduct regular performance evaluations for all employees in this role.
  • Maintain regular communication with team members to ensure work specifications are met and promptly address any issues.
  • Process daily work tickets, material invoices, receipts, and delivery tickets, inputting data into the system and project-specific invoices.
  • Oversee multiple crews on various projects.
  • Work alongside employees in the field as necessary.
  • Prepare and/or supervise billing to the owner, ensuring timely receipt. Maintain a monthly invoice log to track the status of all invoicing to the owner.
  • Exhibit leadership through positive influence rather than positional authority.
  • Uphold ethical business practices and conduct in all work performance aspects.
  • Adhere to OSHA and MOSHA Safety Standards, complying with Company Safety Policies.
  • Follow appropriate protocols for timely incident reporting to the Safety Director and management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with the engineering and construction management industry, including current trends and industry networks.
  • Possess technical knowledge, scheduling, and organizational skills.
  • Experience leading the bidding process and project forecasting is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and facilitation skills in English; ability to influence, negotiate, and clarify complex processes to clients and staff.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of Word, Excel, and MS Project; experience with Viewpoint is advantageous.
  • Prior experience working with various state government agencies.
  • Ability to lead through positive influence rather than positional authority.
  • Demonstrated competencies in achieving results, communication, and teamwork.
  • Capability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team, handle sensitive information discreetly, and prioritize tasks effectively.

Education, Training, and Experience

*Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field, or any combination of education and 5+ years of experience demonstrating in-depth knowledge of infrastructure construction project management.

*Experience with project controls.

*Minimum OSHA 10 certification; OSHA 30 preferred.

*Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and applicable Federal and State construction regulations.

*Familiarity with MS Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and Google Docs; knowledge of Viewpoint is beneficial.

*Experience with government contracts and certified payroll is preferred.

Work Environment

Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor conditions that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

Must be capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects, utilizing abdominal and lower back muscles for support over time without fatigue, and effectively climbing, jumping, sprinting, or throwing objects.

*Ability to lift heavy objects exceeding 50 lbs, and to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods.

Requires good manual dexterity and coordination.

Noise levels are typically loud on job sites.

Normal work hazards associated with the construction environment are present on job sites.

Must be able to move arms and legs quickly.

Special Requirements

Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver's license prior to employment.
