Job Summary

The Dallas Independent School District is seeking a highly qualified Special Education Teacher - Self-Contained to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher - Self-Contained, you will be responsible for providing educational services to students with special needs in a self-contained classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work collaboratively with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students assigned to the self-contained classroom.
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to ensure that students receive the support and services they need to succeed.
  • Instructional Planning and Delivery
    • Develop and implement instructional plans that meet the unique needs of students in the self-contained classroom.
    • Deliver instruction that is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the IEP goals of students assigned to the classroom.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring
    • Administer and interpret assessments to measure student progress and inform instruction.
    • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet the needs of students.
  • Classroom Environment and Management
    • Create a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth.
    • Manage classroom behavior and implement strategies to support students with challenging behaviors.
  • Professional Development and Collaboration
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to share ideas and strategies for supporting students with special needs.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
    • Valid Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsements.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrated knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and build strong relationships with students and families.
Work Environment

The work environment for this position is a self-contained classroom setting. The noise level is moderate, and travel throughout the district is required. A remote working environment is not an option for this position.
