Role Summary:

The Safety and Security Specialist is responsible for delivering security services that maintain the safety and order of patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.



Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties

  • Provide escort services for visitors, staff, and students as needed.
  • Conduct thorough patrols of the facility, both inside and outside, using foot, bicycle, or vehicle methods, ensuring coverage 24/7 in all weather conditions.

(Only security personnel who meet the necessary driving standards will be authorized to operate Orlando Health vehicles.)


  • Assist in granting access to sensitive areas for authorized personnel.
  • Identify and address suspicious activities on campus promptly.
  • Report any criminal incidents to supervisors and law enforcement as required.
  • Investigate incidents, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports; manage various situations with professionalism and composure.

  • Support medical staff in enforcing legal regulations regarding patient care as necessary.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement during patient intake and manage the status of individuals under care.
  • Document and report any safety or security breaches throughout the facility.
  • Ensure the safety of helicopter operations by overseeing helipad activities and assisting flight crews as needed.

  • Utilize and operate metal detection equipment effectively.
  • Maintain consistent attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies and relevant regulations.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Education and Training

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word for report generation is essential.

Licensure and Certification

  • A valid Florida driver's license is mandatory, with insurability under Orlando Health's insurance criteria.
