Job Title: Behavioral Health Specialist I

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Behavioral Health Specialist I to join our team at Fairfax County, VA. As a key member of our crisis stabilization unit, you will provide critical support to individuals with mental illness and co-occurring disorders.

Responsibilities:

  • Function as an active member of a treatment team, providing crisis intervention and stabilization services.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions, focusing on skill-building and recovery.
  • Develop and maintain individual service plans, considering the unique needs and strengths of each client.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure seamless care coordination and effective communication.
  • Provide de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, adhering to state and department regulations.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, sociology, nursing, public health, or a related field.
  • Valid Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, with maintenance throughout employment.
  • MANDT Certification within six months of appointment and annually thereafter.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver's license with fewer than six demerit points (or the equivalent in another State).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or nursing.
  • Minimum of two years of post-degree experience working with adults who suffer from serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
  • Certified by the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional - Adult.
