Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physical Therapist III to join our team at Stony Brook Medicine. As a valuable member of our rehabilitation team, you will provide clinical services to our patient population, demonstrating superior patient care and outstanding communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and provide physical therapy treatment programs for inpatients and outpatients, including evaluation, treatment, and prevention of disability, injury, disease, or other conditions of health.
  • Coordinate physical therapy programs with other healthcare personnel, including occupational therapy and nursing.
  • Direct and aid patients in gait training, isokinetic exercise, posture training, therapeutic exercise, joint protection, desensitization, edema control, muscle sensory reduction, and home program.
  • Construct and/or supply splinting, adaptive, and exercise equipment.
  • Direct and train patients in the care and use of assistive devices, prosthetic, and orthotic devices, including wheelchairs, canes, and crutches.
  • Evaluate, record, and report patient progress for other members of the rehabilitation team.
  • Participate in patient care evaluation studies.
  • Will participate in training of students in Physical Therapy from the Physical Therapy Program of the Stony Brook's School of Allied Health Professions as well as physical therapy students and physical therapist assistant students of other affiliated programs.
  • Participate in weekend and holiday patient care on a rotational basis.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy or Certificate in Physical Therapy from an approved and accredited institution.
  • New York State Physical Therapy Licensure/Registration or eligible.
  • NYS License must be obtained within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated pediatric clinical experience for Pediatric Care.
  • Demonstrated hand therapy experience for Hand Rehabilitation.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
