Key Responsibilities

In this role, your main focus will be on the upkeep and repair of utilities equipment and specialized support systems. Your tasks will include:
  • Maintaining, testing, and repairing electric motors.
  • Inspecting and fixing electrical equipment.
  • Examining and repairing electric instruments.
  • Replacing worn gaskets and seals in watertight electrical equipment.
  • Maintaining and repairing gasoline engine systems, air conditioning electrical systems, and portable heater fuel/electrical systems.

Training and Development

Through comprehensive training, you will acquire the skills necessary for a successful civilian career in various industries that utilize equipment powered by electrical motors, such as healthcare facilities, manufacturing companies, and government entities. With additional certifications, this role can also pave the way for self-employment as a repair technician for electrical tools, motors, and equipment.

Compensation While Training

Instead of incurring costs to learn these valuable skills, you will receive a regular paycheck while training. In the Army National Guard, you will gain these essential job skills while also qualifying for tuition assistance.

Training Program

The training for a Utilities Equipment Repairer consists of:
  • 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental soldiering skills.
  • 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, focusing on the repair of electrical products, with a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on field experience.
