Position Overview

Stephens College is in search of a dynamic and student-focused nurse educator for a full-time, year-round role. The main objective is to design and execute simulation-based learning opportunities within our advanced patient simulation facility, while also facilitating simulated and laboratory educational experiences on campus. The successful candidate will exhibit passion, expertise, and vigor to enhance the nursing program and possess the capability to instruct across various clinical areas.

Role Responsibilities:

The Simulation and Laboratory Coordinator is primarily tasked with supporting practicum courses. This role involves managing and assisting faculty engaged in simulation and laboratory learning environments, which may include standardized patients, manikins, task trainers, and medical apparatus. The Coordinator will spearhead initiatives to align the program with healthcare simulation best practices (INACSL) or Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) standards and foster team development in simulation professional growth. Additionally, the Coordinator will oversee clinical placements and scheduling in collaboration with faculty and the Program Director. Direct teaching responsibilities may be assigned each semester by the Program Director.

Key Duties:

  • Uphold the mission, vision, and values of the College and the Nursing program.
  • Participate in teaching and service activities as outlined in the Faculty Personnel Policies and the Constitution of the Corporate Faculty.
  • Develop and implement a simulation program in collaboration with nursing faculty to establish best practices in the simulated learning environment, utilizing a variety of patient technologies and scenarios including mass casualty, standardized patients, OSCE, practice stations, case studies, and high-fidelity simulations.
  • Oversee procurement, inventory, and acquisition of specialized equipment and supplies.
  • Manage the setup, breakdown, programming, maintenance, operation, disassembly, and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Assist in student recruitment and enrollment efforts.
  • Provide training and act as a resource for staff utilizing simulation and laboratory equipment.
  • Serve as a resource for faculty in simulation development, identify simulation opportunities, and ensure curricular consistency for the simulation program.
  • Instruct within the Nursing program with assigned teaching responsibilities based on qualifications and experience in classroom, clinical, laboratory, and simulation environments.
  • Supervise clinical, laboratory, and simulation learning experiences as designated.
  • Contribute to accreditation and registration processes.
  • Facilitate program assessment and evaluation.
  • Manage projects as assigned.
  • Provide service to the college and the profession.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, including a clinical component.
  • Current active nursing license in Missouri with no disciplinary actions in any jurisdiction.
  • A minimum of three years of clinical experience in patient care settings.
  • Proficiency in simulation technologies and equipment, including updates, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience with educational methodologies, standards, outcomes, and assessment.
  • Strong commitment to supporting BSN education and student learning.
  • Excellent collaborative and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management abilities.
  • Meet the Missouri State Board of Nursing requirements for contingent faculty.

Preferred:

  • Master's, PhD, or DNP in Nursing.
  • Experience in scenario design, setup, programming, and debriefing.
  • Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).
  • Clinical experience across multiple specialty areas.
  • Experience teaching baccalaureate-level prelicensure nursing students.
  • Experience with accreditation and program assessment.
  • Experience engaging undergraduate students in research opportunities.
