Job Summary

Inova Health System is seeking a highly skilled Polysomnography Technician 3 to join our Sleep Team at Inova Alexandria Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Maintenance: Order and maintain appropriate supplies, perform routine maintenance, detect equipment malfunctions, troubleshoot, make minor repairs, and report major problems to the appropriate hospital personnel according to department policy.
  • Work Area Management: Keep work area in a clean and orderly fashion, and ensure equipment is clean and in proper working order according to department guidelines.
  • Productivity and Time Management: Practice good time management, keep authorized breaks within accepted policy, and maintain levels of productivity established for the department.
  • Quality Patient Care: Consistently apply electrodes and other recording devices, check impedance, and ensure accurate patient recordings according to established policies and/or evidenced by no request for data clarification or physician inquiry for additional information or clarification due to poor quality tracing or technician error.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Provide and document complete and accurate patient medical history, patient/machine calibrations, tech notes, and clinical events pertinent to each procedure according to established department procedures.
  • Artifact Recognition and Elimination: Obtain a high-quality recording by recognizing artifacts and taking immediate steps necessary to eliminate them.
  • Sleep Stage Recognition and Tabulation: Consistently recognize sleep stages, seizure activity, EEG/EKG waveforms, and apneic events, and accurately tabulate all records and adjust CPAP pressure according to departmental policy.
Requirements
  • Hours and Location: Full-time, 5 (8 hours) or 4 (10 hours) DAY shifts at Inova Alexandria Hospital.
  • Education and Experience: High School graduate with documented completion of Advanced Polysomnography workshops, courses, seminars, and/or comparable experience in a EEG/Respiratory/OR monitoring and/or sleep disorders laboratory, with 2-3 years of prior work experience in sleep disorder testing.
  • Certifications: BLS, CPR, and Heart Saver certifications from the AHA required, and Registered R.PSGT.
