Kemira, a global leader in sustainable chemistry, is seeking an EHSQ Specialist to support our East Chicago, IN plant in meeting environmental, health, and safety targets. The successful candidate will ensure safe and environmentally responsible operations for our employees and the community.
Key Responsibilities- Regulatory Compliance: Develop, implement, and maintain environmental, health, and safety procedures and programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State, Municipal, and Corporate regulations.
- Employee Training and Development: Oversee employee training on health, safety, and environmental issues, maintaining detailed training records and analyzing new products, materials, and processes for effective hazard communication and safety procedures.
- Incident Analysis and Prevention: Coordinate incident analysis, action plan follow-ups to prevent reoccurrence, and maintain document control as per ISO/Corporate requirements using SharePoint.
- Emergency Response and Industrial Hygiene: Manage the emergency response program and medical monitoring initiatives in line with corporate guidelines and the plant Integrated Contingency Plan. Develop site Industrial Hygiene protocol and supervise its execution.
- Waste Minimization and Behavioral Safety: Lead the plant's waste minimization and Behavioral Safety Programs, focusing on sustainable options and positive reinforcement.
- Process Improvement: Collaborate with production teams to review and improve health, safety, environmental, and quality processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field (Environmental, H&S engineering, or similar) and/or equivalent experience in a chemical/manufacturing facility.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and Indiana State regulations.
- Lab bench work capability.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write and review procedures.
- Ability to successfully time-manage in order to prioritize and complete a variety of competing tasks.
- Experience with MS office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and SAP.
