Job Overview

Scarsella Bros., Inc. is a family-owned heavy-highway construction company seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our team for the summer. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in field engineering and office engineering, working on shop drawings, submittals, schedules, takeoffs, pay requests, contract changes, and project documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications.
  • Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials and work.
  • Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages.
  • Assist in field surveying and work layout support including elevation, control points, and compilation of as-built data.
  • Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets.
  • Assist in providing solutions related to earth moving, transportation, roadways, water resources, and underground utilities and construction operations.
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training.
  • Order and schedule material deliveries.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.
Requirements
  • Pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Ability to work full-time during the summer (approximately May-August or June-September).
  • Committed to the construction industry and not the design industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Strong work ethic – highly motivated and willing to do what it takes to get the job done right.
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to begin or continue working with our company without requiring sponsorship for employment now or in the future.
